DESCRIPTION:Universities and other educational institutions are making use
  of social networking and\nsocial media technologies (SNT) for a wide vari
 ety of reasons\, from marketing themselves to future students\, communicat
 ing with the current student body and maintaining contact with alumni. The
 re is also a growing interest in how\nthese technologies can be used to su
 pport\nlearning\, teaching and provide for an enhanced learning environmen
 t. From the use of\nSNT to afford communications and build social communit
 ies to supporting collaborative\nwork and study\, the applications for SNT
  to\ndate have been many and\nvarious\, combining\npedagogical and informa
 tion technology perspectives. There has\nalso been an\nacknowledgement tha
 t the use\nof such technologies is not unproblematic\, with concerns\nabou
 t how students and staff manage privacy and identity asprivate\, public an
 d\ninstitutional domains overlap in these virtual spaces. \nThe aim of thi
 s mini-track is to bring tohether researchers from different disciplines i
 nvestigating the use of social networking and social media in learning and
  teaching.
