DESCRIPTION:The field of open education includes a wide diversity of parti
 cipants. Open educational resources and services are provided by both indi
 viduals and institutions. Open education initiatives are created both at t
 he grassroots and by governments. While some open education thought leader
 s style themselves as revolutionaries\, others work as reformers. Some peo
 ple want open education experiences that result in credentials\, while oth
 ers are interested in developing competencies. The Open Education 2011 con
 ference brings together this broad diversity of people to discuss the stat
 e of the art in open education and facilitate creative conversations acros
 s a wide variety of perspectives. Keynote speakers will address topics ran
 ging from major government initiatives to efforts directed toward replacin
 g traditional institutions.
