- Phase 5 (Steckbrief): Kostenloser Editor für Windows mit zahlreichen Zusatzfunktionen
- Bluefish (http://bluefish.openoffice.nl/index.html): Kostenloser Editor für Linux- und Macintosh-Plattformen
- Arachnophilia: (Steckbrief): Übersichtlich aufgebaut und leicht zu bedienen
- bbedit: (http://www.barebones.com/products/bbedit/): Für Macintosh-Plattformen; eine lite-Version ist unter dem Namen TextWrangler als Freeware erhältlich
- TextEdit: Im Lieferumfang von Macintosh Betriebssystemen enthalten
- Microsoft Editor: Sehr einfacher reiner Texteditor ohne Zusatzfunktionen im Lieferumfang von Windows Betriebssystemen enthalten
