The Ruhr-University Bochum (RUB) is one of Germany’s largest universities. The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) (Zentrum für Wissenschaftsdidaktik = ZfW) is RUB’s central place for all questions about teaching and learning in higher education. Their work focuses on e-learning, didactics of higher education and academic writing. It provides all faculties with advice on questions such as: How can groups of students be activated? How can exams be designed in a meaningful way? How can students be motivated to write and read? In addition, the ZfW implements large projects e.g. in the field of learning analytics and artificial intelligence as well as in the field of inclusion. It also plays a central role in shaping teaching in the Europe-wide university network UNIC.
